Addis Ababa February 8, 2023 (FBC) – Minister of Women and Social Affairs (MoWSA) Ergogie Tesfaye held discussion with World Bank delegation led by Robert S. Chase, practice manager of social protection and jobs Africa Region.
On the discussion, the Minister appreciated the longstanding relationship between Ethiopia and the World Bank and urged the delegates to make it stronger.
The discussion was focused on how to work on the joint activities such as urban and rural destitute support, extending psychosocial support in war affected areas of Tigray, Amhara and Afar and rehabilitating returnees.
Social capital is a foundation for all development and Ethiopia needs to manage its social activities critically, she said.
Social issues need a multi-sectorial task and cannot be overcome through lone efforts of the government, she said, calling non-government organizations to play their part in addressing the challenges.
Robert S. Chase, on his part expressed the readiness of the World Bank in supporting efforts to empower women and girls.
“Since Ethiopia and the World Bank have all-weather strong relations, the relation needs to be strengthened more than ever,” he added.
The two sides further underscored need to cement collaboration to curtail social problems in war affected areas of Ethiopia.
