Addis Ababa, July 25, 2023 (FBC) – Ethiopia is working to become exemplary by fully implementing the food system transformation road map that it has developed with a view to ensuring food security of the country, Minister of Agriculture, Girma Amente said.
It is to be recall that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed is participating at the ongoing UN Food Systems Summit +2 in Rome, Italy.
According to Ethiopian News Agency (ENA), on the side-line of the summit, the Minister of Agriculture Girma Amente said that the UN Food System Transformation was established two years ago in New York, USA during which Ethiopia had presented its Food System Road Map.
According to the Minister, Ethiopia’s Food System Road Map has been acclaimed by the participants of the forum on the occasion.
This year’s UN Food Systems Summit +2 opened on Monday in Rome expected to evaluate the activities carried out over the past two years.
Ethiopia has been carrying out the necessary preparation works including the establishment of institution vital to implement the road map, the minister said.
Accordingly, a committee was formed comprising 15 ministers jointly led by the Ministry of Agriculture and Health.
The minister noted that a study being carried out to find ways as to how the national initiatives align with the roadmap is nearing completion.
According to the Minister of Agriculture, Ethiopia is currently developing a detailed action plan with a view to commence the implementation of the road map.
He underlined that Ethiopia will exert the necessary efforts to implementing the food system transformation as the issue of food is a big priority.
Food system includes the related resources, the inputs, production, transport, processing and manufacturing industries, retailing, and consumption of food as well as its impacts on environment, health, and society.
