Addis Ababa, November 26, 2024 (FBC) – State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Birtukan Ayano said Ethiopia is working to ensure that more women have the opportunity to serve in key positions of the diplomacy field, both within Ethiopia and abroad.
State Minister made the remark during a half day event held under the theme: “Women in Diplomacy: Building Bridges Across Generations’’ in the presence of various resident ambassadors.
The event aimed to celebrate the contributions of women to diplomacy, foster intergenerational dialogue, empower aspiring female diplomats, and advocate for gender equality within the field.
In her opening remarks, State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Birtukan Ayano, emphasized the critical role women play in diplomatic endeavors. She called for collaboration between senior and young female diplomats to create a more inclusive and equitable future in international relations.
Ambassador Birtukan further highlighted the importance of creating opportunities for mentorship to enhance the participation of young women as visionary leaders and change makers in future diplomacy.
The event brought together high-ranking Ministry officials, ambassadors based in Addis Ababa, senior and junior women diplomats, representatives from international organizations, and Ministry staff.
The panel discussions featured diverse speakers, including experienced women ambassadors and young diplomats. The sessions provided a platform for sharing knowledge, addressing the challenges and opportunities faced by women in diplomacy, and reflecting on ways to advance gender equality in the profession.
Key topics highlighted during the discussions included the pivotal role of women in peacebuilding, the importance of empowering women and achieving gender equality in diplomacy, and the value of mentorship in shaping future generations of diplomats.
This event reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to fostering an inclusive environment where women can thrive and make significant contributions to global diplomacy.
