Addis Ababa, December 29, 2023 (FBC) – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Demeke Mekonnen bade farewell to the outgoing Ambassador of the Republic of the Sudan, Ambassador Jamal El Sheikh today.
Noting that the relationship between Ethiopia and Sudan is cemented by strong people-to-people relations, Mr. Demeke expressed his appreciation for Ambassador Jamal`s efforts and contributions in strengthening the brotherly relations between the two countries.
Mr. Demeke assured the ambassador that Ethiopia will continue to stand by the people of Sudan in these trying times. He further stressed the need to maintain the unity and territorial integrity of Sudan and the urgency to silence the guns through a Sudanese-owned and led peace process to achieve sustainable peace in the country.
Ambassador Jamal El Sheikh said he feels at home in Ethiopia and thanked Ethiopia for the support he received from various institutions of the country during his tenure.
Regarding the current situation in the Sudan, Ambassador Jamal thanked Ethiopia for its position on the need for the peaceful resolution of the conflict in the Sudan in a manner that preserves the unity of the Sudan. The Ambassador further appreciated Ethiopia for supporting Sudanese displaced by the war.
