Addis Ababa, October 9, 2020 (FBC) – Athlete Letesenbet Gidey, who broke women’s 5,000 in Valencia, has returned home to a heroine welcome she received from the vice president of Ethiopian Athletic Federation, Athlete Derartu Tulu and other officials.
Letesenbet set a new women’s 5,000m world record of 14 minutes 6.62 seconds in Valencia on Wednesday October 7, 2020.
Up on her arrival at Bole International Airport with her coach Haile Iyasu, Letesenbet has accorded warm welcome from the renouned athlete Derartu Tulu, the incumbent vice president of the nation’s Athletics Federation, Athlet Markos Genete, the Ethiopian Athletics Association, Bililign Mekoya, among others.
On her victory at Valencia, Letesenbet beat athlete Tirunesh Dibaba’s 5,000 record with around 4 seconds.
In an interview after her triumph in Valencia, Letesenbet told journalists that she has made her dream a reality.
The federation stated on the occasion that Letesenbet’s victory has created an inspiration for other athletes in the country.
