Addis Ababa, April 7, 2022 (FBC) –Ethiopia’s Minister of Finance Ahmed Shide received at his office Chargé d’Affaires Ambassador Jacobson of US Embassy in Addis and USAID Ethiopia Mission Head Sean Jones to discuss development cooperation between Ethiopia and the United States.
The two discussed the positive results of the humanitarian truce, including humanitarian assistance delivery over recent days to Ethiopians in the Tigray, Afar as well as Amhara regions.
The US representative lauded the encouraging situation created for humanitarian operations in the Tigray region and mentioned the need for the Tigrayan side to ensure access to aid delivery.
She also indicated the need for continued efforts toward human rights accountability during the conflict in northern Ethiopia and sustained peace across the country.
The Minister also briefed on the government’s ongoing recovery plan and resource mobilization efforts to support the conflict-affected regions.
He indicated that Ethiopia will seek development partners’ assistance to adequately recover from the effects of the conflict, which has significantly affected people’s livelihoods, welfare, as well as economy, and infrastructure.
USAID Ethiopia Mission Head, on his part, informed the Minister about a new regional humanitarian aid program for drought response this year, which will be launched soon in Ethiopia, Kenya, and Somalia.
The Minister and Ambassador reaffirmed their commitment to continue and strengthen cooperation activities between the two countries, according to the Minister of Finance.
