Addis Ababa, July 31, 2023 (FBC) – Minister of State for Government Communication Services, Selamawit Kasa, stated that Ethiopia has carried out successful activities in bilateral and multilateral diplomacy at the second Russia-Africa summit in St. Petersburg.
The Minister of State Selamawit recalled that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) and Russian President Vladimir Putin have expressed a common position that the countries’ political and cultural diplomacy should also be strengthened in the economic field.
She also mentioned that the Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Summit was also a platform where Ethiopia demonstrated its concrete achievements in development undertakings.
In the Summit, Ethiopia has called on Russia to support Africans’ efforts to become self-sufficient in food with technological resources, Selamawit pointed out, recalling a series of bilateral agreements signed between various institutions of Ethiopia and Russia.
Further recalling Prime Minister Abiy’s discussion with President Putin, the Minister of State said that the Ethiopian delegation, in its stay in Russia, signed multiple agreements and MoU’s that will be entered into implementation soon.
During the discussion of the two leaders, it was stated that Ethiopia is doing exemplar undertakings in the agricultural sector to ensure food security, Selamawit added.
Bolstering the 125-year bilateral diplomatic ties of the two countries through economic and social engagements was also part of their discussion, the Minister of State said.
Mentioning the Russian President’s praise on Ethiopia’s successful development endeavors in the past few years, especially in the agricultural sector, Selamawit noted that Putin reaffirmed his government’s support to Ethiopia’s efforts to become self-sufficient in food with technology, investment and resources.
Reminding Ethiopia’s further call for Russia’s support to strengthen industries in Africa, she said that the meeting pointed out the need to work in cooperation to intercept the constraints of the Russia-Africa trade ties.
Further calls were made to Russia to work closely with Africa to tackle the global challenges, such as rise in prices of fuel and agricultural resources, Selamawit further added.
