Addis Ababa, March 11, 2024 (FBC) – The Ministry of Agriculture of Ethiopia and Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development of Uganda were engaged in knowledge-sharing and capacity-building program under twinning exercise.
The twinning exercise between Ethiopia and Uganda aims to strengthen land governance practices and promote sustainable development, according to the Ministry of Agriculture.
The initiative involves a collaborative partnership that leverages their respective experiences and expertise to improve land management systems.
Representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, Christian Mesmer from GIZ (the German Development Agency), IGAD Secretariat, Embassy of Uganda in Ethiopia, and other relevant stakeholders have been engaged in the twinning exercise.
It is stated that the partnership facilitates the exchange of best practices in land governance, with the goal of enhancing land tenure security, promoting equitable access to land, and ensuring sustainable land use.
The twinning exercise focuses on addressing common challenges, including land disputes, tenure insecurity, and inadequate land administration systems.
Subsequently, effective land governance practices such as land administration systems, participatory land use planning, and community engagement in decision-making processes can be adopted.
It is stated that the participants of the “twinning exercise” will conduct visits to different areas of Ethiopia as part of the workshop.
