Addis Ababa, September 15, 2023 (FBC) – The Ministry of Health (MoH) announced that Ethiopia will host the 9th international mosquito control annual conference and exhibition from September 17-21, 2023.
In joint press briefing, the Ministry of Health and the Pan-African Mosquito Control Association (PAMCA) confirmed that the conference will bring together up to 1000 participants from different countries.
Highlighting the challenges and control mechanisms of malaria in Ethiopia, the Public Relations and Communication Head at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Tagene Regasa said that in the last two years, this disease has been increasing internationally, continentally and in Ethiopia as well.
The current season is the breeding season of mosquitoes, Dr. Tegene reminded, stressing the need to contain the malaria epidemic by implementing appropriate prevention and control measures at the individual and community levels.
It is noted that the conference is organized by the Pan-African Mosquito Control Association (PAMCA) in collaboration with stakeholders. The Chairperson of the PAMCA Ethiopia Chapter, Prof. Dilnesaw, told the media that his organization is working on research and capacity building in collaboration with the Ministry of Health regarding the malaria epidemic.
Malaria Consortium Country Director and PAMCA Conference Steering Committee Chairman Dr. Agonafr Tekalign said that new inventions that will help control epidemics will be unveiled at the conference.
