Addis Ababa, June 8, 2024 (FBC) – Ethiopia and Tanzania have been actively collaborating in challenging the multifaceted problems in peace and security, Tanzania Defense and National Service Minister Stergomena Lawrence Tax said.
The Tanzanian Defense and National Service Minister stated that the two countries have a longstanding history of cooperation and are (still) committed to bolstering their partnership.
The countries had signed a memorandum of understanding and action plan on peace and security that they are actively implementing, the minister revealed.
“As two friendly nations, we also collaborate not only at the national level, but also contribute to continental and international initiatives.”
Stergomena L. Tax who had discussion with her Ethiopian counterpart, Aisha Mohammed, this week described the meeting as “very fruitful discussion”.
Ethiopia and Tanzania have been actively collaborating in challenging the multifaceted problems in peace and security, she added.
“We are satisfied with what we are doing. We have training together; even some of our officers are here…. We have pilots who are studying in Ethiopia, and some officers are also in Tanzania.”
According to her, the ministers have assessed the progress and are satisfied. “But we say this is not enough.”
Therefore, she revealed that the ministers convened to explore avenues for collaborative efforts aimed at bolstering the friendship and multifaceted cooperation between their respective countries.
“The global environment landscape is changing. So, we need also to make sure that we move with the speed to confront these evolving security challenges through a number of initiatives which we are agreed and we’ll keep on concretizing them.”
Commenting on the role Ethiopia is playing in ensuring peace and stability in East Africa region, she said, “Ethiopia is doing a very good job. We commend the government for what they are doing.
We know that is not an easy challenge, but as the African Union, we are here to continue supporting Ethiopia to make sure that there is peace in the Horn of Africa.”
Tax underscored that it is imperative to ensure collective action because these issues and crimes transcend borders, and no single country can effectively address them alone, as per ENA.
