Ethiopia tables a report on SDG Alliance 8.7 and COVID 19 response

Addis Ababa, May 20,2020 (FBC) – Ethiopia has presented its progress report on SDG Alliance 8.7 and experience on prevention and control of COVID 19.

Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Dr. Ergoge has participated in Pathfinder Countries virtual conference hosted by Anousheh Kanvar, the chair of the Alliance and Delegate of French Government to the International Labor Organization to discuss SDG Alliance 8.7 and COVID-19 response.

On the virtual conference, Dr.Ergoge Tesfaye expressed her gratitude to ILO for its continued guidance and support towards enabling Ethiopia to deal with elimination of forced labor, modern slavery, human trafficking and child labor.

Dr.Ergoge Tesfaye explained the efforts Ethiopia is exerting to achieve its SDG Alliance 8.7 related goals and effectively control the coronavirus pandemic through public mobilization.

According to Dr. Ergoge Ethiopia has taken promising steps in supporting street children, enacting anti-trafficking law, supporting victims and punishing offenders involved in illegal activities accordingly.

Responding to COVID-19 concern, Ethiopia has implemented tripartite workplace response protocol, state of emergency among others to combat the virus.

She also mentioned the model role of Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed at National and Continental level.

Anousheh Kanvar, chairperson of the Alliance, appreciated the commitment of Ethiopian government describing it as a role model for the rest of pathfinder countries and other nation too.
