Ethiopia shares experiences on roles of SEZs in fostering industrial development at AU 7th AEZO summit

Addis Ababa, December 2, 2022 (FBC) – Ethiopia has shared its experience on the role of special economic Zones (SEZ) at the African Union 5th symposium on SEZ and 7th African Economic Zones Outlook (AEZO) annual meeting, being held in Abuja, Nigeria.

Ethiopian delegation is participating at the AEZO 7th annual meeting and the African Union 5th Symposium on Special Economic Zones (SEZs).

At the symposium, the role of SEZs in accelerating industrial transformation, building resilient economy, and fostering green growth policy reforms are highlighted, the Ethiopian Investment Commission confirmed.

Addressing the symposium, Daniel Teressa, Deputy Commissioner of the Ethiopian Investment Commission, shared Ethiopia’s experiences on the roles of SEZs in fostering industrial development in general and in particular its functions on jobs creation, export growth and skills and technology transfer.

He also imparted the recent policy landscape shift in Ethiopia from a constricted IPs to a full-fledged SEZ policy framework.

AU 5th Symposium on SEZs and AEZO 7th annual meeting kicked off in Abuja, Nigeria, on November 30 under the theme “African special economic zones: Engine for resilience and accelerator for sustainable industrial value chains development.” The event is scheduled to conclude later today, December 2, 2022.
