Addis Ababa, May 21, 2024 (FBC) – In a move to strengthen bilateral ties, senior military officials of Ethiopia and Saudi Arabia have held discussions aimed at elevating the level of intelligence and security cooperation between the two nations.
The Ethiopian delegation, led by General Getachew Gudina, the head of the Defense Intelligence Department, is in Saudi Arabia for working visit. The delegation travelled to Saudi Arabia on the military intelligence.
During the talks, the two sides identified key areas where their respective defense forces could collaborate more closely, including the exchange of military intelligence, capacity building initiatives, technical cooperation, and mutual support. They also discussed national, regional, and global common security issues.
According to information provided by the Ethiopian Embassy in Riyadh, the discussions emphasized the importance of further enhancing the military intelligence and security cooperation between Ethiopia and Saudi Arabia.
During the discussions, the two dignitaries stated that the cooperation and mutual support between the defense forces of the two nations were founded on the long-standing historical ties and friendship between the countries.
In line with the direction given by the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Ethiopia, Field Marshal Berhanu Jula, General Getachew Gudina also met with the Chief of the General Staff of the Royal Saudi Armed Forces, Lieutenant-General Fayyad bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili.
The Ethiopian delegates are expected to visit selected military facilities of Saudi Arabia during their stay in the Kingdom, as part of the ongoing discussions and cooperation efforts.
