Ethiopia, Republic of Korea sign MoU for smart city project

Addis Ababa, July 12, 2023 (FBC) – The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the Republic of Korea have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a “Smart City” project in Ethiopia.

It is stated that the Ethiopian Ministry of Urban and Infrastructure (MoUI), the South Korean government project consortium, and Agere, a local consultant engaged in eco-green smart city construction projects, have signed the tripartite MoU.

The preliminary agreement is said to include issues pertaining to comprehensive economic partnership and cooperation.

During the MoU signing ceremony, Minister of State for Urban and Infrastructure, Fenta Dejen, said that the Ministry will provide all the necessary support for the realization of the project.

The projects to be implemented include urban agriculture, coffee plantations, health care, vocational education, electronic systems and the national industrial complex, according to the Ministry of Urban and Infrastructure.

It is said that the realization of the projects will help to strengthen the relationship between the two countries and promote trade-oriented economic growth.
