Ethiopia reports 179 new COVID-19 cases, 50 recoveries

Addis Ababa, June 14, 2020 (FBC) –Ethiopia has reported 179 new positive cases for the coronavirus (COVID-19), taking the total number of confirmed cases to 3,345.

The new cases were identified out of 4,845 laboratory tests conducted in the last 24 hours, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Health.

Of the new confirmed cases, 116 are male and 63 are female with the youngest being 2 months old and the oldest 80 year, it added.

Some 176 of the confirmed cases are Ethiopians and the remaining three are foreign nationals.

Of the total confirmed cases, 111 are from Addis Ababa, 23 from Amhara 15 from Oromia, 11 from Afar, 9 from Tigray, 5 from Somali, 2 each from SNNP and Dire Dawa as well as 1 from Harari regions.

Two patients also died of the virus in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths to 57, the Ministry said. A record 50 people have recovered from the virus, raising the total number of recoveries to 545.

There are now a total of 2,741 active cases in Ethiopia, with 30 of them in a severe condition. The total number of tests conducted so far stands at 181, 349.
