Ethiopia confirms 17 new COVID-19 cases

Addis Ababa, May 6, 2020 (FBC) –Ethiopia has reported a record number of positive cases of coronavirus (COVID-19).

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Health, 17 people have tested positive, out of the 1,382 samples taken over the past 24 hours.

This brings the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 162.

All the confirmed cases are Ethiopian nationals aged between 14-65 years. Four of them have no travel history abroad, the statement added.

The other 13 cases came from Djibouti (seven) and Somalia (six) and were in mandatory quarantines in Afar and Somali regional states.

Two more people have also recovered from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 93, the Ministry indicated.

Ethiopia’s overall test count currently stands at 26,517.
