Addis Ababa, November 27, 2024 (FBC) – Ethiopia has reiterated its commitment in combating transboundary crimes as well as disrupting and preventing human trafficking and other transnational criminal networks.
The country’s commitment was reasserted at the Regional Operational Centre in support of the Khartoum Process and AU-Horn of Africa Initiative (ROCK) annual conference which kicked off in Addis Ababa today.
In his opening remarks, Deputy Commissioner General Melaku Fanta, Commander of the Ethiopian Federal Police Crime Prevention Directorate, said that the ROCK aims to better monitor and share information on human trafficking and related criminal networks.
The Deputy Commissioner noted that ROCK focuses on reducing the number of incidents of human trafficking and people smuggling through an enhanced regional capacity to better track and share information on irregular migration flows and associated criminal networks.
He also emphasized that Ethiopia has a strong position to prevent and combat transnational crimes.
General Melaku further expressed his country’s commitment to disrupting and preventing human trafficking and other transnational criminal networks.
Ethiopian Federal Police Commission is working dilligently to prevent and investigate transboundary crimes, protect victims of such crimes, and arrest wanted criminals, he emphasized.
The meeting was attended by ROCK Technical Director Herve Jamet, ROCK Operations Director Muktar Ramaden, and representatives from various countries, according to Federal Police information published on its Facebook page.
