Addis Ababa, November 17, 2023 (FBC) – Ethiopia will continue supporting South Sudan in its effort to uphold peace and stability in the country, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Demeke Mekonnen, reiterated.
DPM & FM Demeke reaffirmed his country’s commitment during a discussion with the UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General to South Sudan and Head of the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), Nicholas Haysom at his office today.
The discussion emphasized the significance of Ethiopia’s role in fostering peace and stability in South Sudan.
Ethiopia has been actively engaged in supporting the peace process in South Sudan, said Demeke, further expressing Ethiopia’ commitments to continue supporting South Sudan in its effort to uphold peace and stability in the country and conduct the election according to schedule.
It is crucial to acknowledge the significance of international collaboration in facilitating the implementation of peace agreements. The discussion between the Deputy Prime Minister and the UN Special Representative demonstrates the commitment of both parties to furthering the peace process in South Sudan.
DPM and FM say that Ethiopia has role as the peace agreement supporter and implementation its dedication to regional peace and stability. By participating in constructive discussions, Ethiopia aims to contribute to the resolution of conflicts and promote lasting peace in South Sudan.
The two sides noted in their discussion that such dialogues and engagements between Ethiopia and the United Nations in supporting the South Sudan peace process would continue to foster cooperation.
The discussion between the two parties underlined that thorough coordinated efforts, Ethiopia and the international community at large, including the IGAD, AU, UN and neighboring countries should work together to ensure the successful implementation of the peace agreement in South Sudan.
