Ethiopia receives request from ITU to host int’l conferences in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa, January 23, 2023 (FBC) – The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Regional Office for Africa has submitted a request to the Ministry of Innovation and Technology-Ethiopia (MoIT) to hold three different conferences in Addis Ababa.

The FDRE MoIT Minister, Belete Molla met today with ITU Regional Office for Africa Director, Ms Anne-Rachel Inne.

The holding of international conferences in Ethiopia, according to Belete Molla, will create a great opportunity for countries across the world to come to Ethiopia.

Belete insisted that the holding of international conferences in Ethiopia has a significant contribution to the development of the country, to build national image, proliferate conference tourism.

The Minister praised ITU’s officials for choosing Ethiopia and expressing their desire to bring conference opportunities to the country.

He recalled that Ethiopia has successfully hosted the 17th Global Internet Governance Forum (IGF) in November 2022, reiterating the country’s unconditional readiness to shoulder and successfully host the conferences that come to Ethiopia in the future.

MoIT’s statement on Facebook indicates that Ms Anne-Rachel Inne, ITU Regional Office for Africa Director, expressed her appreciation and gratitude to Ethiopia for successfully hosting the 17th Global Internet Governance Forum.
