Addis Ababa, June 30, 2023 (FBC) – The Standing Committee on Law and Justice Affairs of the House of Peoples’ Representatives of Ethiopia stated that Ethiopia has received more than 51 thousand Sudanese refugees since the conflict broke out between Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in April.
The Standing Committee visited the Sudanese IDPs who are sheltered in the Genda Wuha and Metema Yohannes areas, West Gondar Zone of the Amhara Region.
The Standing Committee observed that the Ethiopian Federal Police northwest rapid action forces in collaboration with the Command Post are providing security safety protection to the refugees, it is indicated.
Considering the surging number of refugees, it is important to increase the number of humanitarian aid organizations to address the needs of assistance.
According to the FDRE House of Peoples’ Representatives, the refugees have stated that they have no security concerns or food shortages except for water and latrines.
