Ethiopia reaffirms commitment to safeguard the peace, security of Africa

Addis Ababa, December 17, 2023 (FBC) – Ethiopia is participating in the 10th Annual High Level Seminar on Peace and Security, known as the Oran Process, which commenced today in Oran, Algeria.

With the theme “Celebrating 10 Years of Progress and Cooperation: A Decade of Transformation and Innovation, Reaching New Heights Together,” this seminar will assess the achievements made by the A3 in fulfilling their AU-given mandate and reflect on the challenges faced over the past ten years.

The annual seminar’s primary objective is to ensure that decisions adopted by the African Union Peace and Security Council are effectively promoted and defended at the UN Security Council. Given the evolving global landscape, this ten-year anniversary seminar seeks to tap into the collective wisdom of this vital mechanism.

Presently, Ambassador Nebiat Getachew, Ethiopian Ambassador to Algeria, leads Ethiopia’s delegation to the seminar. In his remarks, Ambassador Nebiat emphasized that this seminar should continue to serve as a powerful platform to align actions and mobilize efforts to safeguard Africa’s peace and security amidst significant political shifts at both regional and global levels.

The Ambassador further highlighted Ethiopia’s remarkable progress in implementing the Pretoria Agreement as the country commemorates its one-year anniversary. He expressed gratitude for the vital role played by the solidarity and unwavering support of the A3 and PSC members.

The two-day seminar is expected to address several pressing issues, including unconstitutional government changes and terrorism. It will also consider the Manual on the Modalities of Engagement between the PSC and the African Members of the United Nations Security Council (A3).

Notably, UNITAR and partners of the Oran Process have also been gathered to participate in this significant event.
