Addis Ababa, January 18, 2021 (FBC) – The Ethiopian Embassy in Algiers, in collaboration with Ethiopian and Algerian stakeholders, today hosted a virtual business promotion event.
About 62 participants drawn from the business communities of both countries and officials took part in the event.
In her opening remarks, Tsion Teklu, State Minister for Economic Diplomacy and Diaspora Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia said Africa’s economic future is in the hands of the nascent members of its business communities.
The implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement would significantly raise the intra-African trade volume and boost the potential of sourcing investment, she added.
Director-General of Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Madame Behloul Ouahiba, on her part, underscored the importance of creating such platforms for the business communities as steps towards effecting actual trade between the two countries.
She also proposed establishing the Ethiopia -Algeria Business Council to enhance business activities between the two countries.
Ambassador of Ethiopia to Algeria, Nebiat Getachew remarked that the trade promotion event would be one in a series of events that the Embassy planned to advance commercial ties between Ethiopia and Algeria.
At the event, the Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce presented to the respective business communities available commercial opportunities in Ethiopia, while Ethiopian coffee and Leather exporting companies employed the opportunity to showcase their products to potential Algerian buyers.
The meeting ended with Algerian businesses expressing interest in continued engagement with their counterparts from Ethiopia.
