Addis Ababa, July 19, 2023 (FBC0 – Ethiopia has been promoting climate actions through bold political commitments and measures, according to the Ministry of Planning and Development (MoPD).
This statement was made while MoPD Minister Fitsum Aseffa held a courtesy and strategic collaboration meeting with Mr. Daniel Ogbonnaya, Country Representative of Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) Ethiopia.
In line with the national policies, strategies and plans, various action oriented initiatives are also being implemented to combat climate change including Green Legacy Initiative which goes beyond convening conferences /workshops and remarkable results are achieved on landscape restoration and livelihood, the Minister underlined.
Commending the contribution of GGGI on climate action so far, she urged GGGI to strengthen its institutional capacity building support to MoPD which is demand driven and well aligned with the government needs and priorities.
Mr. Daniel, on his part, reiterated that GGGI will continue supporting MoPD to advance its climate change mandate in systematic manner, shifting its approach from project based to a programmatic approach.
He said that his institute would also like to collaborate with the Ministry in the upcoming key events including African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN), Africa Climate Week and COP28 preparations.
The meeting ended MoPD endorsing the GGGI Country Planning Framework (2023-2027) and guidance was provided on the CPF to focus on Long -Term Low Emission and Climate Resilient Development Strategy (LT-LEDS) as overarching climate change strategy in Ethiopia, according to the Ministry.
