Ethiopia plans to secure 5m additional COVID vaccines

Addis Ababa, April 16, 2021 (FBC) –The Ministry of Health said it is working with the African Union (AU) and international agencies to secure 5 million additional COVID vaccines.

More than 430,000 people have so far received COVID-19 vaccination in the country, said the Minister of Health, Dr Lia Tadesse, in a press conference issued today.

The jabs were administered to frontline workers and individuals aged 64 and above, the Minister said.

In addition to increasing the pace of the vaccination, efforts were underway jointly with AU and other international agencies to get 5 million vaccines, Dr Lia indicated.

Ethiopia has so far reported 236, 554 COVID-19 cases, with 3,285 deaths and 175, 879 recoveries.
