Ethiopia participating in the 75th Int’l Astronautical Congress in Milan, Italy

Addis Ababa, October 17, 2024 (FBC) – Ethiopian delegation led by Minister of State for Innovation and Technology, Yishurun Alemayehu, is participating at the 75th International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in Milan, Italy.

Opened by the President of Italy, Sergio Mattarella, IAC2024 is being held from 14-18 October 2024 under the theme “Responsible Space for Sustainability”.

More than 11,000 participants, including government officials and experts from industry, research and the institutions, are participating in the annual astronautical event and are discussing the challenges and opportunities in space, as the number of satellites is expected to grow significantly.

The intention of the IAC 2024 is to highlight the importance of Space as an environment that must be kept secure and open to exploration, peaceful use and international co-operation by present and future generations in the interests of the planet and all nations, regardless of their level of development and without discrimination of any kind.

The congress features plenary events, technical presentations, exhibitions, and discussions on key topics shaping the future of space exploration and utilization, making it a must-attend event for space enthusiasts and professionals.

Speaking on the significance of this global plenary event, Minister of State Yishurun Alemayehu said that the congress is a useful platform for finding international partners for Ethiopia’s space program.

Yishurun asserted that his delegation will leverage the IAC2024 to seize opportunities that will enable Ethiopia to emerge as a leader in the field.

According to the Ministry of Innovation and Technology of Ethiopia, the Minister of State is leading a project that will enable his country as a participant in an unmanned lunar mission scheduled for 2028.

IAC2024 is organized by the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) and hosted by the Italian Association of Aeronautics and Astronauts (AIDAA) and co-hosted by the Italian Space Agency (ASI) and Leonardo.
