Addis Ababa, May 16, 2023 (FBC) – Ethiopian delegation led by Ambassador Hirut Zemene, Ethiopian Ambassador to the Benelux countries, is taking part in the Fifth Special Session of the Conference of the Chemical Weapons Conversion (CWC) where Member States of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) met in The Hague, The Netherlands to evaluate the Convention’s implementation status and set out priorities for the Organisation for the upcoming five years.
During the course of the general debate session of the conference, Ambassador Hirut Zemene delivered a statement which focused, among others, on cooperation through capacity building with a special focus to Africa programmes, gender balance and equitable geographical representation in the Staff establishment and National implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention within the context of the National framework.
The new Chemical Technology Centre of OPCW was inaugurated on 12 May, 2023 at the Hague on which Ambassador Hirut Zemene also took part and learned of possibilities of making use of the facility for experts in Ethiopia.
The Fifth Session of the Review Conference of the States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention (RC-5) opened on the 15th of May 2023 in The Hague, the Netherlands and will continue till May 19, 2023, as per the Ethiopian Embassy in Brussels.
