Addis Ababa, January 17, 2024 Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Demeke Mekonnen, earlier this morning met with the Caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan, Anwar ul-Haq Kakar on the margins of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland.
They discussed mutual engagements at various levels at the highest levels of respective governments to further strengthen bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
By citing the fact that Ethiopia opened its Embassy in Islamabad recently, DPM & FM Demeke reiterated Ethiopia’s commitment to consolidate Ethio-Pakistani ties. He also mentioned that Ethiopia will work towards diversifying its engagements with Pakistan including trade and investment.
Caretaker Prime Minister Kakar, on his part stated, by capitalizing on the positive momentum from the commitment of the governments of Pakistan and Ethiopia to boost relations, his country will work to strengthen ties in the areas of trade, investment, skills transfer as well as people-to-people relations.
Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, who is currently serving as the Caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan succeeded Former PM Shehbaz Sharif in August 2023.
The Embassy of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan was officially inaugurated on 11 May 2023 while Ambassador Jemal Beker is the first Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.
