Addis Ababa, December 12, 2024 (FMC) — The Ministry of Planning and Development (MoPD) unveiled Ethiopia’s first-ever Regional Economic Accounts Handbook, a pivotal tool for harmonizing regional accounts statistics and fostering data-driven development.
Mr. Bereket Fishatsion, State Minister of Planning and Development, officiated the launch, emphasizing how the handbook bridges international standards with Ethiopia’s unique realities.
The initiative, developed in collaboration with UNDP and regional stakeholders, represents three years of rigorous consultations and capacity-building efforts.
The event brought together key officials from the House of Federation, the House of Peoples’ Representatives, the Prime Minister’s Office, and regional planning bureau heads, demonstrating a unified commitment to advancing Ethiopia’s regional accounts.
This handbook is said to be more than a guide—it’s a catalyst for transformative development. By enabling regions to track economic performance and align with national accounts statistics, it paves the way for informed decision-making, effective policies, and equitable economic growth across the country, as per the Ministry.
