Addis Ababa, October 25, 2024 (FBC) – The Ministry of Planning and Development (MoPD) has launched Ethiopia’s Climate Week in preparation for 2024 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan, set for November 11–22.
The Ministry mentioned that Ethiopia aims to showcase its climate leadership and advocate for equitable and sustainable solutions through a high-level delegation, including government, youth, and civil society representatives.
Minister of MoPD Fitsum Aseffa on the occasion outlined her ministry’s COP29 action plan, developed with support from development partners.
Acknowledging Denmark support, FEthiopia will have a dedicated pavilion in the Blue Zone at Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (COP29) to host collaborative side events.
According to the Ministry, the Climate Week includes sessions on youth and social inclusion and the launch of the Climate Landscape Analysis for Children in Ethiopia (CLAC) study with UNICEF, addressing climate change’s impacts on vulnerable children and offering policy recommendations.
Minister Fitsum expressed her gratitude to all partners, including UNDP, UNICEF, and WFP, for their support.
