Ethiopia-Kenya relations role model for the region – FM Raychelle Omamo

Addis Ababa, April 20, 2022 (FBC) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kenya, Ambassador Raychelle Omamo received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ethiopia Meles Alem at her office today.

Ambassador Raychelle stated during the meeting that Ethiopia and Kenya have a longstanding fraternal relationship that could be a role model for the Horn of Africa. The Kenyan Foreign Minister further expressed her country’s keen interest in enhancing the bilateral relationship.

She appreciated the government of Ethiopia’s peacebuilding initiatives, mentioning the proposed National Dialogue and efforts to rehabilitate areas affected by the conflict in the northern part of the country.

At the occasion, Ambassador Meles Alem conveyed a message from the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Demeke Mekonnen, addressed to the Minister.

He pointed out that the historical friendship between the two countries has scaled up to cover multiple areas, including political, economic, and people-to-people ties.

Ambassador Meles noted that the two countries exerted much effort to scale up relations in the cultural arena, including sports, further stressing the need to maintain the momentum.

She expressed her gratitude to Ambassador Meles Alem for his notable contributions to the development of bilateral relations during his tenure in Kenya.

Concluding their meeting, the Foreign Minister presented Ambassador Meles with ‘Nyayo Simba’ award, which is bestowed upon ambassadors who have made significant contributions to Kenya’s diplomatic relations with other countries.
