Ethiopia, Kenya discuss ways of addressing human trafficking

Addis Ababa, January 30, 2024 (FBC) – Ethiopia and Kenya started a bilateral discourse today in Nairobi to deliberate on ways for tackling the issues of human trafficking and the illicit movement of migrants, the Ethiopian Embassy in Nairobi disclosed.

This meeting is organized by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The Ethiopian contingent attending the gathering is comprised of representatives from the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as the Federal Police. The delegation is headed by Mr. Asseged Ayalew, Chief of Staff at the Office of the State Minister at the Ministry of Justice.

At the opening session, Mr. Teshome Shunde, Minister Plenipotentiary at Ethiopian Embassy in Nairobi, has stressed the intensity of challenges posed by human trafficking and smuggling of migrants in the region.

He also commended Kenyan Government for its efforts and commitment in addressing the challenges, thereby stressing the need for coordination between and among relevant authorities of the two sisterly Nations.
