Ethiopia is committed to adverse effects of climate change: State Minister

Addis Ababa, July 17, 2023 (FBC) – This morning, a high-level delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia led by State Minister Ambassador Birtukan Ayano, took part in a tree-planting exercise in the city of Harar as part of the nation-wide clarion call to plant 500 million trees in a day.

It is stated that the state minister joined by the President of Harari Region, Ordin Bedri, officiated the planting of trees.

Speaking at an event organized by Hariri regional state together with Ministry of Foreign Affairs, State Minister Ambassador Birtukan said, the Green Legacy Initiative (GLI) has a great national significance.

She said, Ethiopia is doing its committed to continuously contribute to international efforts to achieve a greener and cleaner world while tackling the adverse effects of climate change.

President Ordin, said, the GLI has been achieving high results and that 70% of the 350,000 saplings planted today are food related.

He added, the drive has an irreplaceable role in terms of fighting climate change, ensuring food security and creating jobs for the youth.

Afterwards, the delegation visited historical artifacts and cultural relics of the City of Harar.
