Addis Ababa, November 18, 2024 (FBC) — The Ministry of Finance of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the World Resources Institute, a non-profit organization with its Head Office located in Washington, D.C., USA.
The purpose of the MoU signed today between the two parties is to collaborate in the areas of capacity building, policy research and data, partnership and resources mobilization, leveraging collaborative platforms and developing innovative financing mechanisms among others.
During the signing ceremony of the MoU, H.E Semereta Sewasew, State Minister for Economic Cooperation in the Ministry of Finance, expressed her deepest gratitude to the World Resources Institute for the initiative and commitment to collaborate with the Ministry of Finance in such key thematic areas mentioned above that will be instrumental for the MoF to achieve its objectives in insuring sustainable development finance through capacity building, policy research and sharing global and regional experiences around climate finance and other climate change mitigation and adaptation measures and reassured the Ministry’s commitment for its realization.
Aklilu Fikresilassie (PhD), Director, Thriving Resilient Cities, WRI Africa Representative of WRI in Ethiopia in his part, thanking the Ministry of Finance for the opportunity provided to work in collaborative manner with the Ministry in the areas of paramount importance for both the Ministry of Finance and World Resources Organization, expressed WRI’s readiness and commitment to work in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance for achieving shared objectives of resources mobilization to contribute for the attainment of the country’s vision of becoming African Beacon through provision of technical support on critical issues such as fiscal policy, financial planning and budgeting, climate finance, climate risk integrating and negotiation.
The MoU shall become effective as of today, November 18, 2024, the date of signature by both parties and shall be effective through August 31, 2028.
