Ethiopia, India underscore need to strengthen ties

Addis Ababa, January 5, 2021 (FBC) – The Peace and Foreign Relations Standing Committee of the House of Peopleś Representatives of Ethiopia today held discussion with Ambassador of India to Ethiopia, Robert Shetkintong.

The discussion focused on ways to strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries.

Chairperson of the Committee, Dr Negeri Lencho, said the two countries should work closely in socio-economic and political sectors by strengthening their inter-parliamentary partnership.

India is the second biggest investor in Ethiopia next to China, he said, adding more effort is needed to further enhance the economic ties between the two nations.

Dr Negeri also briefed the ambassador about the law enforcement operations conducted in Tigray regional state and efforts being made by the Government to restore infrastructure damaged by the TPLF group.

Ambassador Robert Shetkintong said his country is committed to work with Ethiopia in the areas of education, trade, investment, tourism, science, technology, and culture, among others.
