Ethiopia earns over $340m from mineral export in six months

Addis Ababa, January 2, 2021 (FBC) –The Ministry of Mines and Petroleum said more than $340 million has been obtained in revenue from mineral export in the first half of this budget year.

State Minister of Mines and Petroleum, Simegn Wube, said the country exported more than 4, 112 kg of gold, 26.9 tons of tantalum, 1,625 kg of raw and 37.8kg of value added opal and 2,123kg of other gemstones.

She said more than 1.7 billion birr was obtained from industrial and construction minerals supplied to local markets, said the State Minister during a performance evaluation meeting.

According to Simegn, the mining industry has created employment opportunities for 48, 785 people during the past six months.
