Addis Ababa, November 3, 2023 (FBC) – Ethiopia and Djibouti have signed an agreement on Thursday to establish a joint Human Trafficking Investigators Task Force, according to the Ethiopian Embassy in Djibouti.
The agreement was signed by Mr. Alemante Agdew, the Minister of State at the Ministry of Justice, Commissioner Mulisa Abdisa, Head of Operations at Criminal Investigation Department of Ethiopian Federal Police, and Mr. Macky Omar, Secretary General of the Ministry of Justice of Djibouti.
During the signing ceremony, the Minister of State Alemante Agdew said that work is being done in Ethiopia to prevent human trafficking crimes.
Recalling that Djibouti has been the major path along the eastern route for human trafficking, the State Minister noted that establishing the Joint Human Trafficking Investigators Task Force is crucial to work in collaboration with Djibouti’s security agencies.
For his part, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Djibouti, Mr. Macky Omar, said that his country is committed to working with Ethiopia to prevent human trafficking and illegal cross-border crimes as well as to bring criminals to justice.
It is believed that this agreement with Djibouti, which lies on the main crossing point of the Ethiopia-Djibouti-Yemen route for human trafficking, will play a significant role in breaking the chain of cross-border crimes and illegal brokers in the area.
