Ethiopia contributes replica of Lucy to be displayed at UNESCO headquarters

Addis Ababa, June 26, 2021 (FBC) – Ethiopia has contributed on Friday a replica of Lucy to be displayed at United Nations Education Science and Culture Organization (UNESCO) headquarters.

Dr. Hirut Kassaw, Minister of Culture and Tourism delivered recorded remarks for the ceremony.

The cheerful event was addressed by Director-General Audrey Azoulay, Ambassador Henok Teferra, some of the co-discoverer Professors Donald Johansen and Ives Coppens, Ambassadors accredited at UNESCO and invited guests.

The display highlights the fact that Ethiopia is the land of origins and a symbol of our common humanity.

The Replica of Lucy at UNESCO Headquarters became the third archaeological piece that will become part of UNESCO’s collections along with the other two already in the collection, Toumaï from Chad and Sangiran from Indonesia.
