Ethiopia collaborating with neighbors for economic integration and regional stability

Addis Ababa, January 3, 2025 (FMC) – The Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador, Nebiat Getachew, this morning, gave a press briefing to journalists on current regional and global issues.

In his presser, the Spokesperson mentioned that a delegation led by senior Ethiopian officials had visited neighboring countries in the past few weeks.

Ambassador Nebiat Getachew stated in his statement that a delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gedion Timothewos, recently visited Djibouti and Kenya, and a delegation led by the Minister of Defense, Engineer Aisha Mohammed, visited Somalia.

The Spokesperson stated that this series of visits by high-ranking officials to neighboring countries is further evidence that Ethiopia is working closely with neighboring countries to strengthen economic integration and to ensure lasting peace and stability in the region.

The visits, Ambassador Nebiat said, have significant role in strengthening relations on bilateral and regional issues in political and economic diplomacy, as well as enhancing people-to-people ties.

The Spokesperson also explained that the recent visits and discussions have played a crucial role in the efforts to ensure regional peace and security by jointly combatting the terrorist group, Al-Shabaab.

Ambassador Nebiat also stated that all the necessary preparations are being made for the upcoming Ordinary Sessions of the 38th Assembly of the Heads of State and Government and the 46th Executive Council and of the African Union due to conducted on 15 and 16 February and 12 and 13 February 2025, respectively, at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa.

The Spokesperson added that preparations are underway to provide befitting hospitality to the participants of the conference infused with Ethiopian culture and values, in order to boost conference tourism and build the country’s positive image.

He also stated that in the upcoming African Union Summit, preparations have been made to demonstrate the principle that “every citizen is a diplomat for his country” by training young volunteer cadets to cater for protocol related services.
