Ethiopia, China sign emergency food aid agreement worth 161mln birr

Addis Ababa, February 7, 2023 (FBC) – The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and Peoples’ Republic of China have signed an emergency food aid agreement worth 161 million birr.

The agreement was signed by the Minister of State at the FDRE Ministry of Finance, Ms Semereta Sewasew, and Mr. Yang Yihang, Minister Counsellor for Economic and Commercial Affairs at the Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia.

The financial support will be used for emergency food aid in Ethiopia. Beneficiaries, according to the Ministry of Finance, are people affected by conflicts and natural disasters in the country.

During the agreement, it was indicated that Chinese investors are interested in investing in Ethiopia in the future economic cooperation between the two countries.

In addition, it was also indicated that China will continue to strengthen its support for Ethiopia’s light rail project.
