Addis Ababa, November 28, 2024 (FBC) – Permanent Representative of Ethiopia to the UN Offices in Geneva, Ambassador Tsegab Kebebew, presided over the United Nations for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) Support Group meeting on November 28, 2024 in Geneva.
This meeting brought together representatives from the UNDRR and member states to discuss the outcomes of the 2024 Regional Platforms for Disaster Risk Reduction, key agenda items as well as preparations for the 2025 Global Platform.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Kamal Kishore, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction (SRSG), provided insights into the developments of the past two months since the first meeting in September and reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to supporting nations in their DRR efforts.
Presentations were made by representatives from the Philippines, Namibia, and Montenegro, who discussed the outcomes of the 2024 Regional Platforms for Disaster Risk Reduction that had taken place in the respective countries. In addition, presentations were made and discussions followed on the Early Warning for All (EW4All) Multi-Stakeholder Fora, the Santiago Network Progress Update, and the preparation for the 8th Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, scheduled to take place in Switzerland in June 2025.
Ethiopia will continue to chair the UNDRR Support Group until July of next year, advocating for enhanced disaster risk reduction strategies and international cooperation, as per Ethiopian Permanent Mission in Geneva.
