Addis Ababa, March 24, 2025 (FMC) — Ethiopia’s Minister of Water and Energy, Engineer Habtamu Itefa, held discussions today with Mohamed Arkab, Algeria’s Minister of Energy, Mines, and Renewable Energy, to explore opportunities for collaboration in the energy sector.
During the meeting, Minister Habtamu highlighted the ongoing cooperation between Ethiopia and Algeria on regional, continental, and international matters. He also underscored Ethiopia’s significant role in enhancing power connectivity across East Africa.
He further pointed out investment opportunities for Algerian energy companies in Ethiopia’s energy development sector, inviting them to participate in upcoming international tenders.
Minister Arkab, in turn, expressed Algeria’s interest in engaging in Ethiopia’s energy sector. He noted that Algerian companies specializing in energy production, distribution, and related resources are keen to take part in Ethiopia’s energy initiatives.
Additionally, he indicated that Algeria would facilitate capacity-building opportunities for Ethiopian energy professionals.
Meanwhile, Minister Arkab also held discussions with Ethiopia’s Minister of Mines, Habtamu Tegegn, in his capacity as Deputy Prime Minister.
Their talks focused on strengthening cooperation in the mining sector. Following the discussions, the Algerian delegation visited the Mineral Gallery, according to the Ministry of Mines.
As part of his official working visit to Ethiopia, Minister Arkab also met with Kassahun Gofe, Ethiopia’s Minister of Trade and Regional Integration, earlier today.
