Ethiopia aims to quadruple energy access by 2030

Addis Ababa, August 16, 2024 (FBC) – Ethiopia’s government is committed to increasing the nation’s energy access fourfold by 2030, with a focus on enhancing power generation capacity.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Water and Energy and the International Institute of Trade and Development (ITD), the Ethiopian Investment Commission has organized stakeholder consultations aimed at exploring ways to strengthen the country’s energy supply through financial and investment initiatives.

During the consultative forum, it was emphasized that energy investment is a top priority for Ethiopia. The commission highlighted the government’s provision of substantial investment incentives to encourage private sector to participate in the area.

The government’s strategy includes a significant expansion of the country’s power generation capabilities, with an overarching goal to quadruple energy coverage by 2030. The discussions at the forum centered on collective efforts to tackle challenges and seize opportunities within the energy sector.
