Addis Ababa, July 11, 2024 (FBC) – In a multi-stakeholder consultation forum focusing on increasing access to clean water in Ethiopia, Minister of Water and Energy Habtamu Itefa emphasized the country’s goal of ensuring universal access to clean drinking water by 2030.
The event, which was attended by federal and regional government officials, development partners, civil society organizations, and professional associations, aimed to address the challenges associated with achieving this objective.
The minister highlighted the efforts being made by his ministry to provide clean drinking water to both rural and urban areas within Ethiopia by 2030.
Habtamu said that synergy among actors in the sector to ensure effective resource utilization and avoiding duplication of efforts is mandatory.
He also stated the need to engage actively and thoroughly the community in any development intervention so as to create sense of ownership.
FBC understands that the multi-stakeholder forum served as a platform for discussing strategies and collaborating on initiatives to make clean water fully accessible to all Ethiopians by the target date.
