Ethiopia has made significant strides in enhancing digital connectivity for refugees and host communities, as noted by Sondaal Tiest, Deputy Head of Cooperation and Regional Coordinator for Refugees and Migration at the International Labor Organization (ILO).
His remarks came during a social dialogue event focused on an inclusive digital strategy, co-hosted by the Ministry of Innovation and Technology (MinT) and the ILO.
In his keynote address, Stephen Opio, Chief Technical Advisor at the ILO, highlighted the vital role of social dialogue in promoting inclusion and sustainable development.
With approximately 1.1 million refugees and asylum seekers currently in the country, Opio cited Ethiopia as a model for digital strategy initiatives that have significantly enhanced connectivity for these populations.
MinT State Minister Yishrun Alemayehu (PhD) reiterated the government’s dedication to integrating refugees and local communities, emphasizing a commitment to inclusive growth through digital innovation, according to EPA.
