Ethiopia achieved successful diplomatic work on int’l arena during PM Abiy’s stay in Rome

Addis Ababa, July 25, 2023 (FBC) – The Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s stay in Rome was where Ethiopia shared its experience in the international arena and carried out successful diplomatic work, said the head of Press Secretariat of the Office of the Prime Minister, Billene Seyoum.

Recall that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) made remarks while participating in the United Nations Food Systems Summit +2 and the International Development and Migration Conference held on July 23 and July 24-25, respectively, in Rome, Italy.

The Head of the Press Secretariat Billene Seyoum reminded that Ethiopia is a transit and destination country for illegal migration.

In this regard, Prime Minister Abiy has clearly indicated the seriousness of the issue at the international conference on development and migration held on Sunday 23 July in Rome.

He underlined the need for narrowing the development gaps between the northern and southern hemisphere countries in order to respond to this challenge in a sustainable way.

The Prime Minister, in this regard, indicated the importance of debt cancellation to developing countries and supporting their endeavors reducing poverty.

He also pointed out that investment projects in developing countries should focus mainly on benefitting the youth.

Moreover, the Prime Minister presented Ethiopia’s experience at the United Nations Food Systems Summit +2, Billene said.

At UN Food Systems Summit, PM Abiy stated that Ethiopia is working to improve the food system besides to ensuring food security through irrigation development, YeLemat Trufat program, Green Legacy Initiative and school feeding program.

The Prime Minister suggested the need for a new and inclusive financial support system to solve the food system constraints in developing countries and debt relief to them.

In the UNFSS, the Premier has presented Ethiopia’s experiences. Hence, the Head of the Press Secretariat noted that this will help to strengthen the cooperation in food system and food security with different countries.

During his stay in Rome, the Prime Minister has also unveiled a plaque in Rome for the legendary Ethiopian athlete Abebe Bikila, who won gold medal in marathon in the 1962 Olympic Games in Rome.

Overall, the Prime Minister’s stay in Rome was where Ethiopia shared its experience in the international arena and carried out successful diplomatic work.
