Addis Ababa, October 29, 2024 (FBC) — Ethio telecom CEO Frehiwot Tamru and Ms. Selamawit Kassa, Minister of Tourism, alongside their respective teams, have engaged in discussions on how to harness technology and Ethio telecom’s expansive telecom and digital infrastructure to propel Ethiopia’s tourism sector to new heights.
In addition to finalizing the ongoing virtual tourism project, the discussions centered on leveraging cutting-edge technology to ensure reliable connectivity at key tourist destinations across the country, laying a strong foundation for innovative, technology-driven solutions aimed at significantly enhancing the visitor experience.
According to a report shared by Ethio telecom, one of the key strategies identified is the adoption of advanced technologies such as Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR).
These tools will enable tourists to explore Ethiopia’s rich cultural and natural heritage in immersive, interactive ways. In addition to enhancing on-site experiences, AR and VR will introduce new avenues for virtual tourism, bringing Ethiopia’s treasures to a global audience.
Furthermore, the collaboration aims to develop integrated applications and establish dedicated contact centers to streamline tourism services.
It was mentioned that these initiatives will ensure easy access to essential information, simplify payment processes, and deliver a seamless, technology-driven journey from planning to the end of tourists’ visits.
The two officials agreed to form teams to begin prioritizing and implementing strategic initiatives that will drive this transformative vision for Ethiopia’s tourism sector.
