Ethio-Djibouti Railway inaugurates first batch of train drivers

Addis Ababa, May 4, 2021 (FBC) – The Ethio-Djibouti Standard Gauge Railway Share Company has today graduated first batch of 34 train drivers.

The drivers are said to have attended theoretical and practical training for the last two and half years of which they spent six months’ course session   in China.

The training was offered jointly by Chinese Companies named CCEC and CERC as per agreements they signed with the Ethio-Djibouti Railway Company.

On the inaugural ceremony, the Transport Minister, Dagmawit Moges said that the railway sector has registered remarkable growth and increased its capacity of lifting 821,000 tons of commodities in 2019 to 1.3 Million ton in 2020.

The Minister said that activities are well underway to enable the railway transportation play significant role in the country’s import-export endeavors calling up on graduates to contribute to the growth of sector.

It is stated on the occasion that the training will be continued in line with procucing skilled and competent operators of the railway transport industry.
