Establishment of Artist Lemma Guya Foundation

Addis Ababa, September 29, 2021 (FBC) – Honorary Doctor Artist Lemma Guya foundation has been established in Addis Ababa.

The foundation is aimed to sustain his art legacy and supporting the art.

The patriotic Ethiopian artist is uniquely known in painting on goat skins leaving the hair in some areas of the work as part of creative expression.

His painting style, “Lemmism”, is also studied in art schools of universities and colleges.

Present at the inaugural ceremony of the foundation, Oromia President Office Head Getu Woyessa said his government is collaboratively working with the artist’s family and friends in order to transfer the artist’s works and legacy to posterity.

He noted that while a museum is named in his name at the Oromo Cultural Center in Addis Ababa a statue of his is planned to be put up at Bishoftu, Lemma’s home town.

Lemma held exhibitions in different countries across Africa and beyond.

His books were also launched at the event.
