Addis Ababa, January 9, 2023 (FBC) – The Ethiopian Red Cross Society handed over ten ambulances and five light vehicles to the Tigray region branch office of the society.
With support from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) has handed over 10 ambulances and five other light vehicles to the Tigray regional branch office.
During the handover, President of ERCS, Abera Tola, expressed his gratitude to the ICRC and other partners for their unreserved support to the Society in delivering its humanitarian services. Apart from such support, he said that it should be worked to strengthen the idea of humanity in the hearts of society
Berhanu Mekonen, Head of the ERCS Tigray regional branch office, on his part said that the Society has stopped providing ambulance services since it lost many of its ambulances in the region due to the war.
He said that the vehicles that have now been received will contribute to the continuation of humanitarian services. He called upon partners to restore the branch office and provide support so that humanitarian services can be widely delivered in the region.
It is to be recalled that the Ethiopian Red Cross Society received the support of 39 ambulances and other light vehicles worth more than Birr 70 million from the International Committee of the Red Cross, the Netherlands Red Cross and the Austrian Red Cross in August 2022.
ERCS called on partners to support the office so that it can be restored and deliver its humanitarian services widely in the Tigray region.
