Addis Ababa, September 6, 2024 (FBC) – The Permanent Mission of Ethiopia in Geneva participated in a pivotal event focused on the use of ‘Digital Technologies in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR)’ in Africa on September 5, 2024.
The event was initiated by the Permanent Mission of the Czech Republic and co-organized by the Ethiopian and Kenyan Permanent Missions, World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR).
Ethiopia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Offices and International Organization in Geneva and Vienna, Ambassador Tsegab Kebebew, addressed the gathering as the chair of the Support Group of UNDRR.
In his remarks, the Ambassador gave the participants an overview of Ethiopia’s experiences in disaster risk reduction and discussed the advancements made in incorporating digital solutions into Ethiopia’s DRR framework.
Ethiopia’s involvement in the event highlighted the nation’s commitment to adopting advanced technologies to mitigate the impacts of climate change and natural disasters, which have increasingly threatened its communities and infrastructure.
This event brought together a diverse array of stakeholders, including ambassadors, officials from UN and international organizations, and technology experts, all united by the common goal of enhancing disaster resilience through digital innovation.
